Pageant:  A competition for inclusion in the Freaks of Asheville 2011 Calendar! -- Witness the spectacular, nutty, and hilarious as Asheville's weirdest compete for 3 honored spots in the 2011 version of the Freaks of Asheville calendar! The pageant takes place on February 13th in the Crystal Room at 11 Grove Street from 8-10pm. Talent, costume, and interview competitions bring out the distinctiveness of our local flavor for all to see.  A voyeur’s delight is guaranteed.  Enter at Club 11 on street level, tickets $10.

After parties:  After the pageant, party until 3am!  Return to Club 11 for the Purgatorio de san Valentine Latin dance party.  A Day of the Dead style celebration featuring Salseros 828 (www.salseros828.com) and Tango Gypsies (www.tangogypsies.com).  Look for the stairway to Heaven where you’ll find our version of St. Peter.  Be prepared to answer to the divine judge about your freaky life for admittance to Sweet Freak Heaven.

In addition to the Freak Pageant & Party, celebrate at the other levels of The Grove House by bumping-up your ticket to a 'full party pass' for an additional $5.  Enjoy Dark Love:  a KriOvSeraphim Session (2 psytrance (Darkpsy, FullOn, and Neurotrance), DJs and one EBM band) in the Boiler Room and Scandals in The Crystal Room!

Register now to compete for inclusion in the 2011 Freaks of Asheville Calendar!

Are you a crazed nut and/or terminally creative? Do new costume ideas keep waking you up at night? Have you performed/displayed your creative ideas for free more times than you can count?

Well, this is your chance to show your stuff and finally get recognized for all the weird inspirations made real that you live for. Compete in the first ever Freaks of Asheville Pageant for a spot in the 2011 Freaks of Asheville Calendar. The Freaks Pageant is much like a standard beauty pageant, but without the beauty, swimsuits, and tiaras. You'll perform your fabulous offbeat talents, show your best get up and go costume gear, and of course give the all-important interview. And, much like standard beauty pageants, you can bribe the judges (we suggest chocolate and feather boas!)

Audition dates are Saturday January 30th 12-4, and Sunday January 31st 12-4 at Craggie Brewing(197 Hilliard Avenue, downtown Asheville), where you will perform a short piece of your choosing and show photos of your costume creations (or other -fully clothed- exploits).  Please register immediately to receive audition guidelines.  How do you register?  Send an obsequious and flattering email of inquiry to:  avlfreakscalendar@gmail.com.

The Freaks of Asheville pageant will take place at Grove House (11 Grove Street) on Saturday, February 13th from 8-10 pm. Contestants will perform a 3 minute talent segment, show a costume of their own creation runway style, and respond to 3 minutes worth of interview questions relevant to the kingdom of freaky behavior and thought. Contestants will compete for a single appearance in the 2011 Freaks of Asheville Calendar, and appearances in the calendar by pageant winners are limited to the top winners, number to be determined. Top 3 winners receive a trophy and gifts.

The pageant is part of a huge all night bash happening on 3 floors of Grove House including Dark Love: a KriOvSeraphim Session (2 psytrance (Darkpsy, FullOn, and Neurotrance), DJs and one EBM band) in the Boiler Room, Purgatoria Day of the Dead party at 11 Grove, Scandals in the Crystal Room, and possibly including a slice of Heaven...

The Freaks of Asheville Pageant is produced by Kitty Love, Craggie Brewing Company, and the Freaks of Asheville (dur.).  The Freaks of Asheville calendar is a fundraiser for Arts 2 People, who receives 10% of calendar income and a big ol' check from the pageant party.

The Artists' Resource Center

Arts 2 People will receive a donation from Urban Outfitters this weekend, from which we will incubate an Artists' Resource Center program! It has been a goal of Arts 2 People's for years to provide professional development support through training and resources for locals in professional fields, and now it can happen. ...For the last 5 years we have worked with Mountain BizWorks through their Artists' Alliance to bring classes to artists that help them build their businesses. Now these classes can happen more frequently. Watch our website for classes in graphic production, contracts, tax compliance, marketing and more for creative professionals! www.arts2people.org.

Here is the article about it in the Mountain Xpress!

Volunteers are need to assist with Mountain BizWorks professional development programs for artists, which happen quarterly. Arts 2 People will be looking for proposals for class offerings soon.
